I’ve just completed my third year participating in Relay For Life and I think I’m still exhausted. But it’s such an amazing event to be a part of that it’s definitely worth it. I continue to be amazed with the other teams. This year $1155 was raised for my little team  through generous donations and cheesecake sales.  This is added to the nearly $45000 brought in for our local cancer services and life saving research. I can’t wait to hear with the county does as a whole!

I Relayed in memory of my Grandma Lois and my great uncle Tom who passed last year.  I also relayed in honor of my friend Kim.

Newsletter #3 to come!

Update from the Nest…

I’m thrilled – the team total is up to $900 with another week and onsite fundraising to go!

I can’t believe I hesitated so much at signing up this year, not sure I was willing to beg, face endless rejection and give up the only free weekend this month. Well I made the right decision; no matter how the weekend shakes down, more money will be raised than last year & I’m going to have a great time with some of the other teams I’ve really grown to love. Yay!

A friend and one of my luminaria honorees, Kim, got an all clear checkup this week after kicking cancer last year. I’m not sure I could express how much she encourages me. Keeping up with 3 kids at the same time, reminds me that I can do this crazy life if she can handle all that with grace.

My grandma died in late 2002 after a five year battle with ovarian cancer and it seemed like a logical thing to get involved in an organization she herself had been. After a few similar issues and scares with my mom and little sister, it makes me all the more glad to be working with this organization. I just refuse to lose a parent, sister, or friend if I can help it. Or how I’ve probably already said it better, Why Relay.

Though I’ll admit it all feels illogical and just plain crazy about two weeks before Relay when the stress kicks in!

I usually attempt to update the blog at http://nightowlsforacure.blogspot.com/ and have an online donation page at ACS Online
